Tadaaaaahh!!

It's finally done, I can't believe it. It's in the house, in the kitchen and it made it before Christmas.
From rough cut lumber to this. This is why I love Woodworking.

Still working on it

Isn't it funny how a couple of days turns into six? I got sidetracked with some other things for Christmas and the table got pushed to the side. Here it is as of about 12:50 Mountain time on Tuesday. The molding is attached to the aprons and the second coat of Arm-R-Seal is on the top waiting for me to come home from work tonight so I can buff it out and apply a third. Then I can move it out tomorrow and bring in the base and get it painted. Lets hope all goes as planned. It won't.

Almost there

Here is the table as it sat last night. I'm still working on a couple of small details, I hope it will only be a couple more days. We'll see what tomorrow brings.

Work is going on

Well the jointer is up and running, I've gotten going with the work on the table I got the top glued up and had to make a small jig to flatten one corner of the legs for a cross section to bolt the legs to the skirt section. The top is looking great the photo is of the bottom, it is so heavy I don't know how I'll move it around. It is at final thickness at 5/4 and will be cut into a square of 63 3/4".

Are you kidding me?

I got the new gib and installed it, and the tables seem to be level to each other. I was getting excited about getting back to work on the table top. Got the cutters re-set and yeah I'm in business.
I reach over to tighten the fence in place and the locking nut just keeps on turning. The threads are gone on the bolt. Great! So I pull the fence assembly apart and take out the broken bolt. After looking at it, I decided to see if I could re-thread it. There isn't enough metal on the bolt to get a good thread so that idea is out the window. Next, I decide to get a new bolt and remove the original. I have great neighbors! One of them just happened to have a bolt that had just the right threads and was the correct length. The only problem was that it needed to be welded in place. I don't know how to weld.
So I go over to another neighbor's house that does to see if he could lend a hand, he wasn't home. I call another, he isn't home but he will be in about an hour. I wait for him to get home. Finally, I get the new bolt welded and put the whole thing put back together and tighten it up, awesome right?
Well not to be. I went in the house for something and when I came back, I placed a test board on the bed, turned on the machine, put just a bit of pressure against the fence and it moves. "What!" I think, "Oh maybe I didn't tighten it." Nope, the bolt, the new bolt is broken again !@.
So I'm down again. Oh well, what's another day of delay, right?

Arghhhhhhhh!

The Table top is on hold, my ut3482p3i012jif[22034!!!! Jointer is down. I found a broken gib on the infeed table today, I've been trying to get good straight edges so I can do the glue up but the tables were not in the right place and I was getting bad results. Anyway until, one I can get a new gib or a newish jointer I'm down and out on the table top. Well not really there are other methods of jointing so I'll be looking into those so I can get this project on the done list.

Thanks

Table top

Well, the work on the kitchen table top has begun I got the Walnut a few days ago and began getting it prepped. Now if I could just get my jointer tuned up, I knew it needed some help but after running these long boards I'm seeing just how much it really is out. Guess I'll take a day or two and work on it and get it in shape again.
I'm not sure if anyone is even looking at these posts but if you are I'll post a few images in a day or so.

Bye for now.

New project

Yes I know it's been so long between projects but I guess that is the way it goes. I'm working on a dinning room table and so far I have the legs done, my wife and I are having a hard time deciding what to use for the table top. The legs and apron will be painted black and the top will be a natural wood. I'll post more images as things get further along.

Bloodwood Bowl

I got an urge to turn today, so on the way home from work I stopped and got a piece of Bloodwood. I've never used it before and wasn't sure how it was going to work. I like the look but I need to get a couple new turning tools to make the job a bit easier. This piece is 2 1/2 inches tall and 6 in. wide.

Cherry & Poplar box

This is a small Cherry and Poplar wood box I've had sitting around for about four months. I had the box portion done and finally got tired of it not being done. I took the afternoon yesterday and finished the lid and put a couple of coats of oil on it. I hope you all like it.

Kitchen

I'm thinking of making a new kitchen for our house, but I've never done anything that large. I'm going to do a bunch of research on it and see if it is really what I want to do.
I'm also wanting to build a bed for my wife and I. She wants a dark wood like walnut, or Mahogany. I'm not against that but I've kind of gotten to liking painted pieces these days. I was thinking of using Poplar and painting it black. Anyone have any thoughts?

I thought that I'd change the look a bit. I hope you don't mind.
